Hackers – I threw together this full review of our weekend in Austin for #ACLFest weekend 2. While we’ve live tweeted our trips in the past, this is the first time since the blog has been live so I’m pulling together all the tweets from the weekend below and adding color commentary. Thanks so much for following along!

Note: Some tweets are posted out of order because they didn’t post successfully while at the festival due to cellular capacity issues.

Well she definitely left her spiked collar behind! I think this must be an older person reference as I didn’t see any spiked collars at ACL. Are they limited to the 90’s Lollapalooza shows? Anyhow, we saw plenty of beards, not many bras, and a great set of bands over the course of the weekend.

We used the ride share app Fasten for the first time while in Austin and it worked out great. I’ve gotta say, I don’t think Austinites are missing Uber at all. Fasten works exactly the same with the minor difference of not being able to track your path to your destination on the map. But the driver was friendly and on time and the price was fair. Recommended.

These are pics from the Mopac pedestrian bridge across Lady Bird Lake leading into Zilker Park. As you’ll see later, it’s a great setting for an urban music festival. And yes, Austin “is dope”!

Wow, that was an understatement. Even though Saturday was busier, the crowds got steadily worse throughout the day. Zilker Park is huge, they had 8 stages set up in order to host about 40 bands each day.

Mrs. HackNow and I took a break to play Plinko and win some cool Tito’s swag. We ended up with 2 hats, 2 shirts and a nice retweet by Tito’s Vodka themselves!

I really enjoyed M83, a french EDM band. We hadn’t listened to them much before the festival but the live show was great and took place as the day turned to dusk. We were able to make our way pretty close to the stage too which was awesome!

Another great day of fun provided by Anker. We saved 3 cell phones that day!

We’d never had a Kebap before but we will have more. Vert’s was a cool little order at the counter Mediterranean joint and the food was good. Real friendly staff keeping Austin weird by supporting local products.

I was really looking forward to the LL Cool J show. Yes, he’s most famous for his work in the 80s/90s but that was my time fam! And Kendrick was the highlight of the weekend for me. Check out some of the performances below.

Yes, I soaked up this performance of “Mama Said Knock You Out” and also thoroughly enjoyed “Around the Way Girl,” “Going Back to Callie,” “Jingling Baby,” and “Hey Lover.”

I have to say that the setting for #ACLFest at Zilker Park across the lake/river from downtown Austin is just beautiful. This is a shot of the main stage with the skyline in the background. So cool.

I didn’t do as much tweeting on Day 2 as the cell capacity on site just couldn’t keep up. The first Kendrick song above is “Swimming Pools (Drank)” which was great but the second was my favorite of the weekend – “m.A.A.d city.”

As always, thanks so much for following along on with our live tweeting. It’s a fun way to chronicle a trip and share it with our followers. Let us know if you have any questions about our weekend.

  1. Hey, Mr. Hack Now. Looks like you guys had a blast. Love Austin. Was there about three years ago on business. Mrs. G and I are hoping to get there again next year. Did you manage to have pizza at Home Slice?

    1. Hey Mr. Groovy!
Yes, Austin is always a good time. We didn’t get to Home Slice this time but my sister-in-law did and she and her husband loved it. It’s on our list for our next trip.

We did hit Kerbey Lane for some Kerbey queso though, mmm mmm.
